Don’t Panic is having a design contest for Sony’s upcoming Little Big Planet. In addition to having their character appear in the game, the winner will receive a copy of the game and a PlayStation 3.

LittleBigPlanet is a new type of game in which characters and levels are designed by players, who can then share their creations with the world. It’s a platformer with a creative edge - described as the Youtube for games, it’s going to be an endless pixel canvas for your wildest design schemes.

Sony have asked us to seek out the best character design to be incorporated into the retail version of the game. That means, of course, that not only will hundreds of thousands of people see your design, but they’ll be using it throughout the game - a fairly unparalleled way of getting your unique style recognised.

Your character will be in good company - so far, 20 creative visionaries have contributed their level designs, including: Build, Kate Moross, Peepshow, Trevor Jackson and Yuko Kondo.
