User Created Content Is Not Region Specific

Contrary to reports floating around previously, Sony has confirmed that user created content in LittleBigPlanet is available worldwide.

Hi all, as many of you may have heard already in an interview at Leipzig the senior producer for LittleBigPlanet announced that the game is region locked. This is in fact not the case, and all shared levels in the game will be available worldwide. The confusion arose out of regional differences in how moderation will work as there are different legal rules each region have to play by, and at one point this looked like it may require the game to be independent in each region - however this has been worked around and there will only be one region for the game…. a LittleBigRegion.

Apologies for any confusion over this issue, however I’m pretty sure you’re happy with the result.

No PSN Version for LittleBigPlanet

Scott Goryl, LittleBigPlanet US PR manager, told Joystiq, “Media Molecule has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet will be released only on Blu-Ray, no Playstation Network version. When LittleBigPlanet was first revealed, it was made as though it was a PSN only title, just user generated content will be available via PSN.”

According to a Kotaku reader, his store received the LittleBigPlanet box below for promotional purposes. The box suggests that the game will be available on DVD for the PC. Most people are crying foul and suggesting that the pic is either fake or a screw up.

User-Generated DLC for a Fee

Although all user-generated content will be free when LittleBigPlanet launches, Sony has announced plans to offer user-generated DLC for a fee. According to PS3 Fanboy, Media Molecule will review past user work and determine based on that whether to allow someone to charge for their content. Users will be allowed to charge however much they want. Whether (and to what extent) this will actually happen remains to be seen, but it’s an interesting prospect that people could potentially make money off their content like what has happened with The Sims.

Don’t Panic is having a design contest for Sony’s upcoming Little Big Planet. In addition to having their character appear in the game, the winner will receive a copy of the game and a PlayStation 3.

LittleBigPlanet is a new type of game in which characters and levels are designed by players, who can then share their creations with the world. It’s a platformer with a creative edge - described as the Youtube for games, it’s going to be an endless pixel canvas for your wildest design schemes.

Sony have asked us to seek out the best character design to be incorporated into the retail version of the game. That means, of course, that not only will hundreds of thousands of people see your design, but they’ll be using it throughout the game - a fairly unparalleled way of getting your unique style recognised.

Your character will be in good company - so far, 20 creative visionaries have contributed their level designs, including: Build, Kate Moross, Peepshow, Trevor Jackson and Yuko Kondo.
